Watermelon 28 Dec, Uta (New Zealand - temperate climate)
I'm growing them for the first time, in Manawatu. So far with the heat and sun we've been having they're doing well. But they'll need a long season, so fingers crossed. My first transplant died in the wind, so shelter is important, in Wellington too :-)

I’m in the Manawatu also and have 5 watermelons on my plant, never had success before, it’s been so hot that I’m thrilled to have fruit!! Hope yours have been a success too.

I'm in Manawatu as well and have 2 plants growing, each have about 6-8 melons. A couple of them are almost the size of a netball and the rest are slightly larger then a tennis ball. Fingers crossed they keep growing:)
Sage (also Common Sage) 29 Nov, Maz (New Zealand - temperate climate)
Hi working in a nursery and having trouble with sage cuttings dying. In the last few weeks most of the sage cuttings die - the cuttings are done early in morning with rooting powder then placed on a misting table until roots form. Over winter no issues but the warmer weather has created havoc. Any suggestions - should they not be put on a misting table where they get sprayed throughout the day? Thanks in advance. Maz

Zucchini (also Courgette, Summer squash, Baby marrow) 21 Nov, Hannah (New Zealand - temperate climate)
Hello, I am new to growing vegetables in general, and am really enjoying it. I recently planted three courgette plants, and did as instructed on the label which was to plant on a raised bed. They are not looking 100% happy at the moment, drooping a bit and some of the leaves are bit burnt/brown around the edges. I was wondering on some good tips for growing courgettes? And how often I should be watering them? Thanks. H
Zucchini (also Courgette, Summer squash, Baby marrow) 17 Sep, Mike (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
I wouldn't worry about the raised beds so much - good draining soil required. Small plants need small regular daily watering - shallow roots. Bigger plants a good watering each 2-3 days. Water around the base and soil and not on the leaves if you can or water early in the day so the leaves dry quickly. Hand pollinate if you have no bees.

I had the same issue , they took awhile to come away but are growing well now , Rock melons do the same , I was told to keep them in a bigger pot till they got a bit stronger before planting in soil , they can get a fungis if to small and vulnerable , do not water at night .
Eggplant (also Aubergine) 15 Nov, Ian Gall (New Zealand - sub-tropical climate)
I, m growing my egg plant in a tunnel house, the leaves are turning black? What to do?
Eggplant (also Aubergine) 21 Nov, rachel (New Zealand - cool/mountain climate)
it's most likely a fungus, you need to spray with something like organic copper
Eggplant (also Aubergine) 20 Nov, Michael (New Zealand - temperate climate)
I have the opposite - all the lower leaves are turning yellow! But at least I have a couple of dark fruit growing fast.
Capsicum (also Bell peppers, Sweet peppers) 12 Nov, Jack (New Zealand - temperate climate)
Is it to late to grow capsicum
Capsicum (also Bell peppers, Sweet peppers) 06 Feb, Colleen (New Zealand - temperate climate)
I live in Christchurch. I had planted my capsicum in Oct 2017 they are still growing. I had put 6 plants in & they are so full that I've had to tie the plants up as very heavy & falling over. I think it depends where u live in NZ on how they grow
Capsicum (also Bell peppers, Sweet peppers) 12 Nov, Liz (New Zealand - temperate climate)
You might be lucky, capsicum like heat and our summer seems to be very slow starting. It is worth a try.
Spinach (also English spinach) 09 Nov, Meta (New Zealand - sub-tropical climate)
i cant really understand, why growing spinach in subtropics is not recommended...pls anyone?
Spinach (also English spinach) 12 Nov, Chris (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
It goes to seed (bolts) very quickly in hot weather so it won't get very large before it becomes unusable.
Spinach (also English spinach) 11 Nov, Charlotte (New Zealand - sub-tropical climate)
My understanding is that the warmer weather can cause it to bolt and go to seed extremely quickly. It likes sun but needs less heat to give the full benefits and yeild. Nz spinach does better during the summer months and is a good alternative option.
