Potato 23 Jul, Michelle Manning (Australia - temperate climate)
Hello I live in northern NSW Australia what is the best potatoes to grow in this area ? Thanks
Potato 06 Aug, (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
It is more about what variety you want to eat. Five people will probably tell you 5 different varieties.

Rosella (also Queensland Jam Plant, Roselle) 09 Aug, Anon (New Zealand - sub-tropical climate)
Try online suppliers
Asparagus 20 Jul, Larga Parker (South Africa - Summer rainfall climate)
You can buy seeds and crowns (depending on the season) from Livingseeds in Midvaal. They have a online website with plenty of organic heirloom seeds.
Tomato 19 Jul, Jan Shearer-Paulson (New Zealand - temperate climate)
Can you please recommend a tomato variety which will grow, in-spite of cool nights (WANAKA)
Tomato 18 Aug, Philip Wills (New Zealand - temperate climate)
Maybe Baxter's Early or Russian Red
Tomato 21 Jul, (New Zealand - cool/mountain climate)
Are you cool mountain or temperate. That will determine your planting time. Plant whatever variety you like.
Rhubarb 17 Jul, David L. (South Africa - Summer rainfall climate)
I live in Howick KZN. I grow rhubarb in deep pots on the north side of our house (probably too hot) in a compost/soil mix regularly watered. Our area has heavy clay about 200mm below the surface, hence the reason for the pots. Our rhubarb grows many thin stalks (5/8mm dia.) quite slowly and many die before getting above 5mm dia.. The picked stalks are tasty if one has sufficient of them. The plants are about three years old and grown from a split off from a crown. Does rhubarb favour any particular soil PH? More or less water? Any particular soil mix? Require any special feeding? What is ideal soil depth? Your guidance would be appreciated. Thank you.

Try building your garden bed higher or use something to break up the clay - like gypsum or dolomite (I think). ph 5.5 - 6.5. Good soil depth of 12
Ginger 17 Jul, marco (Australia - tropical climate)

Ginger 20 Jul, Narendra Sen (Australia - temperate climate)
August/September is fine. In fact you could put them in the ground anytime now. I did it a week back as a trial and I can see the eyes are very prominent. So the germination process has begun. I am in SE Qld.

Beans - climbing (also Pole beans, Runner beans, Scarlet Runners) 15 Jul, VJ Pertzel (Australia - tropical climate)
Are there any beanfly resistant beans? It is so disappointing to keep losing our bean crops!
Beans - climbing (also Pole beans, Runner beans, Scarlet Runners) 21 Jul, (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
I only grow them in the spring time - no bugs then.
Asparagus 14 Jul, Page (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
I do not have access to crowns but do for seeds. How best to prepare the soil and what pH is recommended?
Asparagus 21 Jul, Anon (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
Bunnings sell crowns this time of year. Google seed selling companies on the net - like Eden seeds or similar. Crowns will have you 12 mths ahead of seeds. Just good friable soil ph 6-7 will grow most things or google it.
Taro (also Dasheen, cocoyam) 12 Jul, Elsa Keyte (New Zealand - temperate climate)

Good deep soil if growing a root crop.

Amaranth (also Love-lies-bleeding) 08 Jul, Kristen (Canada - zone 4a Temperate Warm Summer climate)
Hello! Im trying to find where these beauties are perennial. Everywhere i look it seems like it isnt perennial anywhere. I know i can just collect the seed, but I’d still like to know what zone they will come back at. Thanks!
Amaranth (also Love-lies-bleeding) 10 Jul, (Canada - Zone 8a Mild Temperate climate)
From the guides here it does not recommend planting it in Canada. There are no planting times in the guide. Also from a quick read it seems like it is an annual.
Sunflower 06 Jul, Tracey (USA - Zone 9b climate)
I’m new at this and just picked a 6ft sunflower roots and all in Texas and I’m going to replant in Arizona Zone9B. How often do they have to be watered?
Sunflower 10 Jul, Anon (USA - Zone 11b climate)
The longer you leave to transplant something the harder it is to have it survive. The roots can not take up enough water to keep a full grown plant a live. In zone 9b you should have harvested the sunflower by now. You transplant when plants are young 2-6 new leaf stage
