I would like to grow onions (sets) in my garden this Feb. 23 to be harvested as mature onions in about 6 months. I would prefer sweet onions. Can you suggest a a particular type ? Do I need to buy heated onions? Thanks, Ron

i am getting my beds ready for my garlic crop .i live on the gold coast Queensland .i will be planting first week of march .i am after glen large garlic .has anyone have any idea whare i can pick some up without the postage costs ...

i went to the farmers markets local ....some stall holders just sell !!! they do not know too much about the product they sell ...i did eventually find a market Gardner grower and we started chatting on garlic .....so i ended up buying italian purple garlic because they have their plot not too far from my local area. nice !! ....elephant garlic is a leek family ..so i picked up them too ....any way if u want to grow local it is worth the trouble to chat with people .at the end the outcome is greater reward when you go home with what u want ...ps,i also ended up with tomato from italy ...so i dry them use the seed ....they smell fantastic ....

I have some German garlic that I really need to plant. Is it too late to plant it in a raised bed in my Zone 7a right now? Still have about 8 to 10 weeks of 20 to 30 degree nights ahead. Thanks!

I live in Las Vegas Nevada. It gets very hot during the summer months (100 to 120°). Will the loofahs grow here?

Yes! I live in south Spain which is zone 9b/10a and grew loofah plants successfully in 2021. We had a couple of weeks over 40c (105f) and it grew like crazy! Use straw mulch and water well twice a week.

A plant that looks very like this plant has grown in my garden, presumably put there by the birds. It grows quite fast and has large and very soft, heart shaped leaves. The pictures I've seen have been yellow but saw it had a flower is purple, so now I'm confused. Any suggestions?

Hi there, We have chaotic weather here in Amarillo, Tx. 4 degrees one night in winter, 60 the next day. Sometimes we get snow, usually we don't. Some winters seem like spring/summer, some are freezing. Then occasionally we get a serious freeze in April and a storm that blows everybody's metal roof off. I planted an imperial star or green globe artichoke 8 years ago - it has nice-looking pink spiky looking flowers. I can't get rid of it and I can't make it produce any more than 2.5" artichokes that are hard and inedible. We get to 108 occasionally in the summer. Why are artichokes listed as ok for zone 7A? Nobody I know can grow them here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Buy some seeds and plant them. Make a pan 600mm diameter and plant 4-5 seeds. Give a good watering and water again in 3 days.

hi... i have several plants in different vegie beds.... but they have all been attacked my a little tiny black beetle... all the leaves on every plant have been decimated and eaten how can i stop them please and any advice .....

The little beetles are flea beetles. Soil born and emerge as the weather warms up and very difficult to control especially organically. I use pyganic and this season I will try Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies israelensis (vectobac) in the soil to try control the larvae when they hatch. It is expensive and a bulk buy however there is an online hydro shop selling in smaller batches. There is also the powdered form. Neem oil should work however I am hopeless at remembering to spray every 10 days. They are usually around in the warmer months and love the Solanaceae family. I also bag my flowers as they can wreck them overnight.

hi,, i have several zucchini plants in between the cucumber plants... hoping that the very few bees i see will also pollinate them... i have others around other plants but so far no female flowers all males... and they have been in for several months... any advice please....

Not a good idea to mix these crops up together. Pollinate the zucchini by hand.

Cut off the male flowers as they form to save the plant energy, it is a ratio of 1 female to about 8 male flowers

i have tried to grow carrots and beets unsuccessfully over the last year... i have built up soil in beds with bunnings veg mix, mushroom compost , manure bags and dynamic lifter... i also use worm castings and tea... from my worms.. i mulch with sugarcane .. and its so frustrating they wont grow... what am i doing wrong please....

You are putting on too much nitrogen fertilise. This will produce a lot of leaf and no carrots. Carrots do not need a really rich soil. Put carrots and beetroot in after a leaf crop like lettuce. When the beetroot are about 200-250mm high you can give them some fertiliser - phosphate rich.

I agree. He/she is trying to grow them with far too much fertiliser. I have grown carrots in the same raised bed for years, and have barely added anything to the soil in all that time. They grow fine. When I try to grow them in the garden beds, which have all been well fertilised with animal manure etc they don't grow well at all.

hi... my bean plants are covered in rust, I have sprayed with a mixture of milk/water .... not sure what is happening... they are in full sun... and they have small holes in the pods ??
