I lived in zone 5a. Yes you can grow sun chokes. I now live in zone 4 I'm still growing sunchokes And a full garden, you just have to be creative, lol.

Something is eating my corn stalks leaves leaving holes in them and inside center of stalks looks like wet corn meal or mash can it still be salvaged and what could be causing this? How do I prevent and stop this infestation?

Winter in Edmonton would be too cold for Roselle to survive, so treat it as an annual.

If you planted your garlic in early November it should be up now in mid-May. I'm in 6B and mine broke ground in March and April. One thing that will slow it down is if you have a lot of light-colored mulch. That reflects the sunlight so the soil stays cold. If that's the case scrape it back and see what happens. Also if mulch is too thick straw the soil may be too soggy for garlic, although garlic does like quite a lot of water. But not sogginess.

You bet! Lettuce doesn't like the temperature to be above 80 degrees. Mine is bolting and bitter now too ( June in 7b)

Spread some epsom salts around the root base and water in. It could be blossom end rot. Happens in tomatoes - maybe chokes also. I good hand full or two in a bucket or two of water and spread evenly.
